Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk and spatula
  • Rolling Pin
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Stand mixer

Ingredients

Forthe Dough

  • cups all-purpose flour +3 tbsp if needed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • tsp instant yeast
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup water

Forthe Filling

  • ¼ cup very soft butter
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Forthe Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tbsp butter softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt until well combined.
  • Heat Wet Ingredients: In a saucepan, warm the milk and melt the butter. Stir in vegetable oil and vanilla extract. Let it cool to lukewarm.
  • Form the Dough: Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix in the egg and water until the dough forms. If it’s too sticky, add up to 3 tablespoons of flour.
  • Knead the Dough: Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes by hand or 6-8 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth and elastic.
  • First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1½ to 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Roll and Fill: Roll dough into a 10x15-inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter, then sprinkle the cinnamon-brown sugar mixture.
  • Shape the Rolls: Roll the dough tightly, pinch the seam, and cut into 8-12 rolls. Place in a greased 14x8-inch pan lined with parchment paper.
  • Second Rise: Cover and let the rolls rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes until golden brown.
  • Make Frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla. Frost the rolls once they’ve cooled for about 25 minutes.
